Fry Words
Click here to download the Fry Word Lists.
Fry words, or “instant words” are the 1,000 most common words. It’s important for students to be able to read these words by sight (not sounding them out) to improve their reading fluency. To build up automaticity, students will work to “pass off” each list by reading all 100 words in less than one minute. Please help your student practice their list three times each day and time them so they can see how they are improving. Once they are ready to pass a list, they will read the list to me and will earn 5 Dojo Points for each list! If this list seems overwhelming, you can break the list into columns and have students master one column at a time. There are great resources such as flashcards and games online (a quick google search will bring up many) for students to practice becoming familiar with these words. Students can pass off their fry word lists by joining me for In-N-Out (Monday-Thursday from 11:30am-12pm) or by taking a video and sending it to me. The best way to send videos is through Remind, texting it to my phone number, or uploading it to Google Drive and sharing the link with me (make sure you update access permissions first). I will also practice lists with students during their monthly meetings. |
