Unit 2 Lesson 11
You have made a list of the parts of a community. Now you are going to design a community of your own. Use the My Dream Community Worksheet for this. You should include:
- a community name
- roads
- homes (including your own)
- landforms and environmental features (rivers, mountains)
- adaptations made by the community
- two places where people can have fun
- two places where people can get food
- two places where people can work
- at least three other buildings or places of your choice (parks, community centers, schools)

Unit 3 Lesson 10
Today you will begin working on your next portfolio. You’ll be writing a travel article to tell all about the best season in your community!
Follow the directions below (also listed on page 2 of this lesson) to plan your article so that you’re ready to begin writing your article tomorrow. Remember, do not wait until tomorrow to begin. You should have these three steps completed today so that you can work on writing the article tomorrow!

Day 2- Unit 3, Lesson 11
Today, you will write and submit your completed article. For this portfolio, you will be creating your very own travel article about a place that is special to you. Please follow the steps below to write and complete this portfolio.
Step 1: Introduce your community. Think of an attention-catching headline.
Step 2: Use the reasons that you wrote in the last lesson. Write your main ideas.
Step 3: Write or type a rough draft of your article.
Step 4: Add a picture with a caption. You can draw a picture or find one on the internet. The picture should show something exciting about your community.
Please review the rubric to ensure that you have all parts.

- Use the Four-Column Chart. Describe the climate and weather for each season.
- List the activities that people do in your area in each season. Include any special events.
- Think about places people can explore. Are there any landforms or waterways?
- This is the season that you will write your article about.
- On a separate piece of paper, write about your choice. Include the reasons for your choice.
- On the same paper, make a list of at least six reasons visitors should come to your community.
- Use details to make people interested.
- List at least three places in nature that people can visit. Include landforms and waterways.
